Cross Country and Distance

Approach The under 13 program focuses on building an aerobic fitness to run for a sustained period time, mixing easy running with hills, sprints, fartlek and relays....fun and fitness.
Athletes are encouraged to attend 3 practices per week.

The 13 and over program takes a more serious approach to interval training, hill running, drills and core strength runs addressed. A mixed level of abilities at this age group results in a variety of workout prescriptions on any given day.
Athletes are encouraged 3 to 5 practices depending on their age, development and fitness level.
Coaches Graeme Fell - Jack Byron

** These practises will be canceled on weeks when there are races.

Track and Field Competition Schedule 2009

The Vancouver Thunderbirds Track and Field Club believes that competition is an integral part of the track and field experience Ð it helps young athletes measure their progress, gives them a venue to perform the skills that they have practiced, and contributes to learning the value of sportsmanship. We understand that some children prefer to attend as many competitions as possible, while others would like to do only what is required. Below is the schedule that we will follow during the coming Track Season, which will allow families to plan well ahead of time. Exact dates have not been published yet, but we will send an email when the competition weekends have been finalized.
Our Expectations of you: We encourage all elementary aged members to participate in the 5 meets marked by a ÒYÓ in the table below. Of these, the most important is the BCJD Championships (for which the club pays the entry). At all events marked with a ÒYÓ your coaches will be there to assist you with your warm up and competitions. Should you not be able to participate in one of these meets, we have provided some alternate meets, marked by an ÒOÓ which you can enter to make up your 5 meets. We cannot guarantee, however that coaches will be at those alternate meets. In some cases you will compete as representatives of your school, and this will still count towards your club meets.
