Baechler wins BIG at Nike Portland's Cross Country Pre-Nationals.

7th grade Cross Country standout, Maya Baechler, toed the line at the Nike Pre-Nationals this weekend in Portland, Oregon.  This was Baechler's first ever race, south of the border. Asked about her experience, Baechler replied "on the start line with 400 girls was pretty crazy. I had a great start and went with the front pack, then pressed the leader with 500m to go."

Baechler, who typically races in co-ed races throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, competed in the all girl's middle-school race (grades 6,7 and 8). She beat out over 400 athletes to take the victory in the 3km distance in 10:45, a new lifetime best and over five seconds clear of 2nd place.
