BC Cross Country Championships, Nanaimo.

For the first time in club history, the TBird JD Cross-Country squad earned first place team honours at the BC Cross-Country Championships. Tbirds amassed 45 points, followed in second place by Ocean’s Athletics with 27 points.

All of the team performed admirably despite difficult slippery conditions.

In the 2007 race, Michael Caddick finished 2nd followed by Griffen Cole in 5th place. Michael looked set for a certain first place finish if it had not been for an unfortunate fall on the slippery last hill.  In the girls event, the quartet of Gabriella Barton, Ruby Forsyth, Chloe Symon and Kate Logan packed impressively in 2nd 3rd, 6th and 10th.

In the 2006 event Kai Martland picked up a bronze medal, while in the girls event Libby Dabbs and Coco Clement finished in 4th and 8th

Maya Baechler earned gold in the 2005 race followed by Clare Logan in 3rd. Adam Rentz had a strong race to take 2nd in the boys event

Sophie Forsyth powered to a 1st place finish in the 2004 race and Paul Van Raamsdonk and Francis Sadleir finished strongly for 4th and 6th place.

2004 athletes Ella Symon 3rd, Skye Higgins 5th, and Makenna Baechler 12th , all continued their strong season. In the Midget races, Emily McGowan 10th, and Dylan Ulrich 13th, ran well in competitive fields. All five athletes will compete at the BC High School Champs this coming weekend in Peachland.

In the senior division, Ross Proudfoot from Speed River had a dominating victory, with Thunderbid’s Luc Bruchet placing 6th, and Theo Hunt in 10th, and Christian Gravel in 15th. On the women’s side, Rachel Cliff led a strong field for the first two laps of the race, finishing 3rd behind Trinity Western’s Lisa Brooking (1st) and Regan Yee (2nd). Robyn Mildren placed 9th overall.  Both Luc and Rachel have earned spots on Team BC and will compete next month at the Canadian XC National Championships in Kingston, Ontario. This event will double as the 2017 XC World Qualifier for Team Canada.
